"When we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to one another."- Mother Teresa

The Organization:

St. Kizito Babies Home is a restorative home for orphans and vulnerable children located in Gangma, a small village just outside Mbale Town. Children come to St. Kizito Babies Home after one or both of their parents have died, after being found abandoned, or after a probation officer determines that the child is in need of protection. At the age of 3 years, the child is then resettled with the remaining family or sent for foster care. The Home then monitors the children through home visits. St. Kizito Babies Home is a registered Non-Governmental Organization or NGO.

The Challenge:

St. Kizito Babies Home struggles to provide consistent medical care, monitoring of children, and proper nutrition. The main problems are as follows:

  • St. Kizito Babies Home has been forced to turn some children away because they cannot afford to pay enough staff to watch over a large number of children.
  • Children have been denied admission to hospitals because the Home simply cannot afford to send a staff member there for that length of time or pay for the treatment. These children receive outpatient care.
  • Monitoring the children after resettlement is a constant challenge with the repairs needed for the vehicle and the petrol it would cost to travel to every home.

Although the Home has received small donations in the past, it is in need of a self sustaining income generating activity to provide consistent care for the children. As a country, we belong to one another. Therefore, we are asking you to join us on the journey to self-sustainability. St. Kizito Babies Home is undertaking a major step in independence by expanding its existing poultry farm. Currently, the poultry farm houses 250 broiler chickens and is mainly used to as a source of protein for the children. In recent months, we have been making the change to commercial poultry farming and we need your help.

The Solution:

In conjunction with Sukali Bistro and Hostel, St. Kizito Babies Home is working to raise 16,800,500 UGX to construct a poultry farm that will hold 1000 chickens. This total includes the cost of production and the cost of construction. The revenue from this farm will drastically improve the lives of the children at St. Kizito Babies Home. It will release the Sisters of Mary Kakamenga from the burden of operating the Home on inconsistent donations from friends both domestic and abroad. And, most of all, it will allow St. Kizito Babies Home to function with pride, knowing that they can provide for the children in its care.

As a "thank you", our donors will receive:

A t-shirt for 100,000 UGX donation

A free meal from Sukali Bistro for a 200,000 UGX donation

Also, to ensure a secure donation, please send money through this akabbo site ONLY.
