There are several art training institutions in Uganda that release a number of talented and skilled artists every year. These graduates however, find it hard to cope with the art industry and market their art. Failure to make a living off their profession breaks them hence the problem of youth unemployment. In my research, I have identified that the major problem is the lack of a bridge that ushers these young stars from the school to industrial art practice.
I therefore came up with a mentorship program at my personal studio where I have been taking on 1 or 2 fresh graduates to guide them on how to position themselves within the art market and make a living off the art they create. I use the personal resources to provide them with startup material like paint and the necessary art supplies.
It is for a similar cause that am seeking additional funding to enable me organize larger workshops that will help more young talented artists.
