“Without art, the crudeness of reality would make the world unbearable” – George Bernard Shaw
To sustain a vibrant contemporary art industry, art must be produced, exhibited, bought and documented. Ugandan art requires the collective patronage and responsibility of Ugandans to evolve.
Startjournal.org is an online art journal that serves the objective of documenting art in Uganda and the greater African region. Since 2007, we have established the critical review element of our industry.
This is one arm of a larger initiative by the Kampala Arts Trust, founded in 2007, which hosted the Kampala Art Biennale in 2014, and aims to create an auction house and modern art museum in Kampala. (more info here: www.kampalaartstrust.org)
Together we can achieve these goals and build a sustainable local art industry that competes at an international standard. Start funding the journal now by contributing to our 2015-2016 budget.
How will we use your contributions?
Startjournal believes in offering readers free and complete access to our website, including our archive of over 265 articles, artworks, stories, and poems. We also believe in supporting our contributors for their work: with this first crowd-funding campaign we hope to pay over 20 writers and artists for their contributions, as well as the editor and the web developer. The aim is to publish a special printed edition of the magazine by the end of this year. Together we can achieve these goals and build a sustainable local art industry that competes at an international standard. Start funding the journal now by contributing to our 2015-2016 budget.
