Basketball

Basketball is a team sport played on a rectangular court, typically indoors, in which two teams, usually consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opposing team’s hoop or basket elevated 10 feet above the ground. The game is played by dribbling the ball while running or walking, passing to teammates, and attempting to shoot the ball into the basket. Points are awarded for field goals, with a shot made from inside the three-point line counting for two points and shots from beyond the three-point line counting for three points. Players can also earn points by making free throws, awarded after certain fouls. Basketball emphasizes both offensive strategies for scoring and defensive tactics to prevent the opposing team from scoring. The sport is governed by a set of rules, with violations leading to turnovers or free throws. Basketball is widely popular around the world, with professional leagues, organized amateur play, and international competitions, including the Olympics.
